About Bryan Cloninger

I am a Cinematographer and Photographer specializing in Digital Acquisition and workflow with a strong background in analog organic film.  I try to bring Filmic craft with cutting edge knowledge of storytelling technology together to make projects full of Art, Passion, and Soul.

I shoot all the time – scenics and anything that is interesting.  I shoot about 2 dramatic features a year.  I also enjoy doing short form projects with colleagues always trying to develop my skills and team.  I am bilingual (french and english) and develop projects in Europe and America.  I have shot also in Africa, the middle east, Asia and am currently developing professional relations in India.

I work with a non-profit foundation that creates media to aid well being and health -  see my fathers website for links. This foundation integrates the wisdom and science of many experts of diverse fields into Narrative Features, Documentaries, Nature Shoots, and various other projects that are designed for personal development – to develop ones inner life, health, and happiness.

Cameraman – After living the transition of the Audio world from analog to digital, I told myself that if I ever saw that again I would put myself at the extreme of the new technology. So 16 years later here I am. I focused on Digital Acquisition. I owned a sony f900/3H HDCAM for 5 years and now own 2 Red One’s (#461 and #3376). I am working mostly in the camera dept. as a Director of Photography (Chef Opérateur); but also light, direct, edit, color correct, develop and write scripts. I am currently working on developing a few feature film projects and also do some freelance feature work (en français aussi, long et court métrage), commercials and anything else that is interesting to shoot.

Photographer – first in film in high school and university up to today with my canon d20 and 18 to 50 to 500mm lenses. I shoot mostly scenics, macros, interesting places and characters I come across. I sell my images for stock on DLS. Check it out. I have images with my code BJC and a number. You can see everything I have on there by searching for BJC in the search box.

Consultant – for all size productions that are either new to the business or looking to improve there production skills.  This can be about finding crew, script breakdown, various production services, how to shoot digitally while keeping high 35mm film standards, or anything regarding cinematography (digital or analog).  Though I enjoy shooting digitally, I am technologically agnostic (to borrow the term from Scott Billups), and think it is best to find the correct tools and medium for the story and project – whether or not it is 35mm, 16mm, 8mm, RED, Viper, Arri, or just a DV cam depends on the goals of the project and its intended means of distribution.
